    GE -- You're usual downhill
12 1/2 months into owning this microwave (which by the way I loved), I was tidiness it with a wet paper towel when pieces of the white interior started coming off of the top. I've never seen this come about before. Called their customer service and was told that it's actually paint and they would be happy to sell me some apply so I could paint the inside of the microwave myself. Wow, that's great customer service. I'm not sure what upset me more, telling me to buy the coat or telling me to paint it myself. Microwave lasted another 9 months before the magnetron blew (it looked like a atomic bomb went off inside of the microwave...really scared us). I was assured that they would fix it but it would cost me upwards of $119 for labor, etc. Apparently I'm not getting it fixed. My last GE microwave lasted me around 15 years. I wasn't expecting this one to last as long (they don't flourish things to last anymore) but I certainly expected a lot more than 2 years.
    GE Spacemaker II
Microwave frenzy the spot and has worked well. Just hopped online to order another one because I was afraid to use it since the paint was peeling off the top. Skim another review and see this person had the same issues. Im sure theres more people experiencing this, but it looks abominable and Im just questioning what effect it has on the foord, waves, etc. Now looking for one the same size.
4 subnormal GE spacesaver microwaves in 16 months
In January 2011 I purchased a PEM31SMSS GE spacesaver microwave because it was the only microwave with >400 watts of power I could find that would fit in the range I have. It looked nice - better than a plain black box. Approximately 4 months later the keypad stopped working and the microwave was replaced under undertaking. In August of 2011 the replacement microwave wouldn't turn off, and was replaced under warranty. In March of 2012 after heating a cup of coffee, the third microwave neutral went dark and wouldn't work any more. The stainless model was no longer available and was replaced with the jet, which arrived yesterday. Today I unpacked it and plugged it in. The interior light won't turn off and there is no keyboard retort when I press the START button because something in the latch isn't making contact. I think I've had one of everything that could go wrong. I would definately not subscribe to purchasing a GE spacemaker microwave of any style.

I thought you were not supposed to use a microwave with metal in it?

Yesterday at Best Buy, I was looking at Microwaves and noticed that one of the largest models they furnish, by General Electric, had a metal rack sitting horizontally in it -- same type of strain you would see in a conventional oven (not a microwave). How does this work? I was always under the impression that having a metal intent in a microwave

In reality what you saw is a stainless steel rack!!.... The trick is that such accesories have no trenchant ends anywhere in its body. It is the pointed ends that cause problems advantaged microwave oven. Any object containing pointed metal can create an electric arc (sparks) when microwaved. This includes cutlery, aluminum check, ceramics decorated
