It uses induction (electromagnetic energy) that actually heats the pan itself rather than the cooking integument. It has a safety shut off and child lock features. I bought this unusual brand because the manufacturer claims the six temperature settings hold steady. I wanted to use the lowest locale (140 Farenheit) for cooking sous vide, but the temperature doesn't hold unremitting in the way I'd hoped, even when the setting is locked. Instead it's like any other electric burner where sous vide victuals means adding ice cubes. I've heard it said induction burners are as precise and harmonious as gas, and if I am comparing this burner to the circa 1996 Whirlpool gas range that came with my house, that is become a reality. In comparison to my 2009 Kenmore Elite gas range, however, it is not. The precision and consistency of this induction cooktop is not exactly as fine tuned as the burners on a mid-range or higher gas burner. Once I get the temperature of the water to endure b offer at 140 on my gas range's simmer burner, it will stay within 3 degrees Farenheit of that temp for hours, whereas the induction burner's exhilaration continues to increase well past the stated 140 F...

Wonderful Value for the penalty
Implausible value. It boiled 3 pints of water in a large saucepan in 7 minutes, compared with 15 minutes on my stoneware electric range, using the same power (1200W). I'll be going all-induction as on the double as I can afford to toss my ceramic range. Two complaints- 6 heat settings are not rather enough, maybe 8 or 10 would be better, also the fan is a bit noisy.
My first live with induction cooking
Its a appropriate unit, when you first put the pot on it it makes a sharp, piercing sound, that soon goes away. It heats up not make sense for tea or for pasta extremely quickly, however it does NOT do it in 50 seconds, more like 2.5 minutes which is about 15% faster than a gas (propane) stove top at full slope. Also, this talk about melting chocolate: we tried that, and it either was taking FOREVER to melt or it burned it.I couldnt find a ecstatic medium with it. And after you shut it off, fans run to cool it down for about a minute. I dont have anything to compare it to, but at this price its a OK champion enough for me, giving me an alternative to gas. Ill keep it.

I'm looking for something affordable, and Frigidaire seems to come across up to my standards and it looks nice too, any input?
I have a Frigidaire collection, washer and dryer, and refrigerator and have been very pleased with all my Frigidaire appliances. They are among the least expensive appliances convenient but the quality seems to be there. I've had no problems at all with the range. If I were going to buy new appliances tomorrow, I would buy Frigidaire label.

Improve the stove top and look at the sockets where the elements plug in. If one of them is bad, you'll see it right in another place. If you have another element the same size, plug the good one into the suspect socket. If it heats up, the ingredient is bad. If it doesn't, the socket or temperature switch is bad.
